New from Warriors is their 1/6 scale bust #WA6008 : US GI Wearing Cap sculpted by Bob Tavis. This is a one piece casting in creamy white resin. There were no air bubbles visible in my example. It comes packed in a zip lock bag in a good sized box with an adequate amount of Styrofoam peanuts to protect it. There are no sharp or thin edges that were in danger of being broken off.
The first thing I did was to measure the eyes using a compass. Despite what I initially thought, they were exactly the same on both sides.
Next I took a low contrast picture, #1 and played with it in my photo editor and found the face to be perfectly symmetrical. The face features some really nice angles and cuts and has much character both straight on # 2 and in profile #3. It is sort of reminiscent of Andy Griffith.
The sculpting of the stitching in the lapels, epaulets and in the jacket buttons is extremely fine and well depicted. #4. The wool cap detail is fantastic. #5.
There is no plinth on which to mount the bust, so the painter is on his or her own to choose one. The pour plug is rather large, as seen in #6 and will need a good deal of clean up to smooth out.
Unfortunately, my example had a major mold misalignment from the base of the hair line to the bottom of the back. This will take some serious and careful carving to eliminate as it passes over the skin at the back of the neck, the collar of the shirt and jacket and through the fine stitch work it the base of the jacket collar. This is the only flaw in an otherwise excellent casting.
Highs: Interesting face, great textures and stitchwork.Lows: Nasty misalignment flaw on the back and large pour plug.Verdict: This will make a very interesting palette for the artist and should be great to look at.
