The good thing about the Zaku is there are a plethora of variants that have be released and even some of the older kits can still be had.
If you want the most up to date one there is the HG Zaku II Type C / Type C-5 from the origin promotion or the RG MS-06F Zaku II if you want something more Intricate as the RG's have full internal frames.

Some of the older kits are still good although the articulation will be slightly more limited.
The HG MS-06 Zaku II production type that I'm building for Sci-Fi 4 is going to be your no frill basic looking Zaku
There are also the MS-06FZ Zaku II which comes with an alt head sculpt as well as Char's custom Zaku II that if you want one with a commander antenna, the J type here also come with an antenna option too.
If you want to do some experimentation there are the FG ZakuII's which pay homage to the original 80's kits that can be had for like $3-5 a pop and while the articulation is very limited can't beat the price if you want to experiment with battle damage or need extras for a diorama

Thanks for the paint lists.

Nice finish to it. BTW, 08th MS Team was my favorite series. I think there are still some pics of the 1/100 EZ8 in my gallery.

Will be calling this one finished, was toying around with the idea of using the stickers it came with but deiced against it. If i can get a hold of some water slides might come back and add some. But for now this Zaku IIJ is ready for action . . . or at least ready to get shot down by a Gundam.
As its and older kit the articulation kind of sucks so cant do many poses but I think it still looks good for a 20 year old kit and in the looks department still stand up to some of the kits that came after it.

Got some more painting done, ended up going with Vallejo pastel green for my light green. At first i didn't really like it but once i put it next to the dark green it really grew on me

slightly subtle but repainted all the dark green areas with Vallejo field green, as well as painted the head tubes and cockpit in a dark grey.

Kind of got pulled back into the Gundam hobby after not building any for almost 10 years, think the last one I built was a Wings kit. Anyway I had this Zaku II from the 1997 8th MS team Gundam vs Zaku two pack laying around and wanted to work on it for three reasons.
1. its and older kit and thus simpler then the new kits
2. because it older its good practice for finishing and painting as if i mess up not going to feel to bad
3.I've always liked the mass produced suits better then the actual Gundam units.

Here's just a test fit of the major parts after sanding

I'm not an expert and i know that Zaku's are know for their large feet but these seem slightly oversized. For comparison here's a little Zaku statue i got from somewhere

lastly for now here is another test fit post clear priming I did today. The clear matt primer actually makes the kit look really nice without any paint
