Well folks it looks like the boys over at Bandai have been burning the midnight oil as they are planning to release a new 1/5000 scale Star Destroyer in the summer, so you'd better start saving those pennies coz it's gonna be big and it's gonna make your wallet cry!

here is a link to a promotional video:

Wait...The normal model size for these is 1/2700 and they are about $145. I wonder how much this hand held size destroyer will be. if it is cheap enough, might be able to sneak if past the wife.

If you're paying $145 you're being robbed. $63 + $15 shipping for the Zvezda boxed one on eBay.

I remember building some SD's from my local HobbyTown USA when I was but a wee lad. haven't built one of those in many years.

Maybe I will see if I can pick this one up. Being from Japan tho, probably means it will have a staggering price tag for its size.

I've got AMT's fiber optic kit in my stash, built one many moons ago when they first came out but it's a horrible kit. It's saving grace was the fiber. I'll be getting the Zvezda (reboxed as Revell) next month and then getting a lot of aftermarket parts as I can afford them. Modelling on a budget sucks. I'm beginning to like bandai kits but I wish they went for larger scales.

Tempting I have to say.

Half way through the Revell/Zvesda one at the moment broke gazillion drill bits and added lots of detail but just splashed out for new engine nozzles and shield generators from shapeways.

Bandai has a U.S. sales division so you might be able to avoid some of the high end shipping costs.

It’s still unclear when the Bandai Star Destroyer Model Kit will officially be released here in the United States. As of now there’s a target of August 2019 for Japan. But there’s no telling when international distributors will begin stocking the release. Price-wise, we’ll be getting two different versions of the ship to choose from. A standard version will sell for around $75, while a deluxe set will clock in at $120. The latter of which will include a transparent frame and LED lighting kit.

Well it sure looks great but it is firmly out of my price range with a new baby on the way.

Maybe I can star a GoFundMe....
